MELBOURNE STORM

FULLBACK

NICK MEANEY

WFB $576K (39 BE)

With the injury to Papenhuyzen, if Meaney is kicking goals he presents a really interesting potential upside at the WFB positon. Tune back in for our article soon.

PROJECTION: 45-50 PPG

WINGER

XAVIER COATES

WFB $398K (27 BE)

Good real life player, terrible fantasy option in 2023, mostly due to his non-existent work rate in the base stats.

PROJECTION: 28-32 PPG

CENTRE

REIMIS SMITH

CTR $372K (25 BE)

Shows some value, but not a definite buy with the base stats a little lower than what we would like and relying on attacking stats. One to consider given the tough centre position.

PROJECTION: 31-35 PPG

CENTRE

JUSTIN OLAM

CTR $497K (34 BE)

Good real life player, terrible fantasy option in 2023 as he has already completed all his price rises in past years.

PROJECTION: 33-36 PPG

WINGER

WILL WARBRICK

WFB $230K (16 BE)

With the indefinite injury status of Papenhuyzen, Warbrick opens up as a likely candidate of the right wing spot vacated by Nick Meaney. He has shown a strong scoring potential in the trials, and is one you can look at as a top 17 scorer even to bolster other areas of your team.

PROJECTION: 30-35 PPG

FIVE-EIGHTH

CAM MUNSTER

HLF $886K (61 BE)

Way too expensive to start 2023.

PROJECTION: 56-61 PPG

HALFBACK

JAHROME HUGHES

HLF $678K (47 BE)

Benefited from PVL ball, but not an option for now as he relies far too heavily on attacking stats.

PROJECTION: 45-50 PPG

PROP

CHRISTIAN WELCH

MID $638K (44 BE)

With probably the worst injury luck in the NRL, the Amateurs (and by the Amateurs we mean Mark) are back in on Welch again in 2023. Conditions are even more favourable for success for Welch in 2023 if he can stay on the park. Unfortunately (or maybe not), Fanhub messed with his price enough to likely make him an avoid.

PROJECTION: 47-51 PPG

PROP

NELSON ASOFA-SOLOMONA

MID $612K (42 BE)

Shows some value, but not enough to interest us as he would need to move to keeper status

PROJECTION: 44-47 PPG

LOCK

TARIQ SIMS

EDG $527K (36 BE)

Shows some value, but not enough to interest us.

PROJECTION: 40-45 PPG

BENCH FORWARD

TRENT LOIERO

EDG $389K (27 BE)

Looks to be a buy with Sims becoming the lock for the Storm. More to come.

PROJECTION: 37-42 PPG

EDGE

ELIESA KATOA

EDG $448K (31 BE)

New recruit Katoa is a potential attacking powerhouse outside Jahrome Hughes on the right edge, and we believe he may have the inside track to become the next Isaiah Papali’i. With 9x 71+ minute performances on the edge resulting in a 48.7 average in 77.1 minutes, and scores of 50 and 59 in his last two starts, he will be an obvious buy if he wins the spot.

PROJECTION: 45-50 PPG

HOOKER

HARRY GRANT

HOK $857K (59 BE)

We had initially listed Grant as “at value” for 2023 and therefore not worth consideration, but given his popularity we needed to take a deep dive to see if we overlooked him. Head to the profile to find out more!

PROJECTION: 60-63 PPG

THE BENCH

PROP

JOSH KING

MID $502K (34 BE)

Way too expensive to start 2023 after being a great cash cow for fantasy managers in the 2022 season.

PROJECTION: 30-35 PPG

PROP

TUI KAMIKAMIKA

MID $579K (40 BE)

Great option off the bench for the Storm, but likely tapped for value unless there is an injury to a big minute forward.

PROJECTION: 34-39 PPG

BENCH FORWARD

TOM EISENHUTH

EDG $396K (27 BE)

Just not a big enough role for Tom in 2023, unless he manages to secure an edge.

PROJECTION: 23-28 PPG

UTILITY

TYRAN WISHART

HLF/WFB $250K (17 BE)

This might be the least valuable role in the entire NRL from a fantasy perspective.

    1. Hi Evan! Congrats on being the first comment.

Honestly, there was some internal discussion about Sims, but a 32yo forward with a long history of mediocrity isn’t really something we are looking to put our chips on. Sims has been extremely consistent across his fantasy career – excluding PVLBall his career averages by season (40, 37, 41, 39, 38, 37). Given he would need to crank that all the way up to 45+, for the first time ever to be relevant, we decided to just watch this one play out from the sidelines.

    1. Hey mate, thats a current theory at the moment, but we understand that the Storm have a fierce competition for the edge spots so we will need more info before committing futher. Only reason we listed Howarth there over the others was his salary.
