PROJECTED STARTING 17, ROUND 1 2022
FULLBACK: LATRELL MITCHELL* (2021 AVG 55.2, NO OBVIOUS CHANGES)
LEFT WING: ALEX JOHNSTON (2021 AVG 41.2, REDUCED SLIGHTLY ON WING)
LEFT CENTRE: JAXSON PAULO $327K 28BE
RIGHT CENTRE: CAMPBELL GRAHAM (2021 AVG 40.1, 40.9 IN 70+ MINS)
RIGHT WING: JOSH MANSOUR $504K 40BE
LEFT HALF: CODY WALKER (2021 AVG 51.1, AVG 50.6 SINCE 2019 WITHOUT REYNOLDS)
Fantasy Outlook (M): The honest answer to this is we don’t have enough of a sample size to judge how Walker is going to perform without Reynolds leadership. Walker only averaged 6 points in kick metres in 2021, which you would have to think gets an automatic 3-4 point bump with Reynolds no longer at the Burrow, but the concern on the flip side will be the impact to his attacking stats with the added defensive attention. If the Rabbitohs had a softer schedule I could be tempted, but for now he remains an option to look at for final teams.
RIGHT HALF: LACHLAN ILIAS (2021 AVG 31, U20S 2021 FANTASY AVG 35 PTS)
Fantasy Outlook (R): Ilias is one of a couple of potential candidates to fill the halfback role left vacant by Reynolds departure. Assuming he’ll be priced in the mid 20s he’ll like be a strong round 1 cash cow candidate if he lands the job but he’s never really set the world on fire in lower grounds to expect heroics from him. Just from being partnered with Cody Walker he’ll likely pick up about 30pts in base stats per game so if he can keep the missed tackles down and grab the odd attacking stat he should be a slow burning cow.
LEFT BACK ROW: JAI ARROW (2021 AVG 43, 39.2 IN STARTING EDGE ROLE)
RIGHT BACK ROW: KEAON KOLOAMATAGI (2021 AVG 47.7, UP TO 49.1 IN 60+ MINS)
LOCK: CAMERON MURRAY (2021 AVG 57.6, UP TO 62.2 IN 50+ MINS)
Fantasy Outlook (R): It’s hard to write about Murray without getting lost in his eyes but I’ll try my best. Murray was a popular discount buy after in the second half of 2021 following a few games with reduced minutes due to injury and it means we’re looking at a discount this year too. When Cam played at least 50 mins he averaged 62.2 in 66mins with a base of near 50pts. The discount will likely have him on the round 1 buy list it’ll just be a matter of if you can fit him in under your salary cap.
PROP: TOM BURGESS (2021 AVG 43.3, NO OBVIOUS CHANGES)
PROP: MARK NICHOLLS (2021 AVG 36.8, NO OBVIOUS CHANGES)
HOOKER: DAMIEN COOK (2021 AVG 59.4, LOWEST PPM SINCE 2017)
Fantasy Outlook (M): It sounds funny to say, but I think the Rabbitohs blowout wins last year actually hurt Cooks fantasy performances rather than helped him. In the 12 out of 21 games the Rabbitohs won 13+ in 2021, Cook made 3 less tackles per game on average than in games they either won in a close game or lost which makes up the other 9. Cook also got an early shower in 4 of these games, where he did not at all in any of the close games. Cook may actually be the one to step up in the absence of Reynolds too, making him an intriguing option for round 1.
BENCH 1: TEVITA TATOLA (2021 AVG 36.4, UP TO 40.6 IN NON INJURY GAMES)
BENCH 2: LIAM KNIGHT
BENCH 3: JACOB HOST
BENCH 4/UTILITY: SILIVA HAVILII
